The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, received the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, in Abuja on Thursday, emphasising the need for closer collaboration to secure Nigeria’s waterways and coastal assets.
Dr. Oyetola congratulated Disu on his appointment, describing it as “well deserved” and expressing confidence in the IGP’s ability to provide effective leadership for the nation’s police force.
“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Inspector-General of Police. Your track record of professionalism and service inspires confidence that you will perform excellently in this office and further strengthen the security architecture of our country,” Oyetola said.
In response, IGP Disu thanked the minister for his goodwill and reaffirmed his commitment to working with ministries and agencies whose mandates intersect with national security and economic development.

He highlighted the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness to support strategic sectors, including the maritime domain, through intelligence-led operations and inter-agency partnerships.
The meeting focused on strengthening institutional collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in securing coastal and inland waterways.

Both leaders underscored the strategic importance of the maritime sector to national prosperity, stressing that enhanced security and surveillance are critical to protecting Nigeria’s waters and other key assets.
“The maritime sector holds enormous promise for economic diversification and job creation,” Dr. Oyetola said. “To unlock its full potential, we must guarantee safety and order across our waterways through seamless cooperation among all relevant agencies.”
IGP Disu confirmed the police’s commitment to supporting maritime security initiatives, including intelligence-led policing, enhanced patrols, and enforcement against criminal activities on Nigeria’s waterways.
Both parties agreed to maintain regular strategic dialogues and operational coordination to improve surveillance, response capacity, and information-sharing across agencies operating in the marine and coastal environments.
The visit reinforces the Federal Government’s focus on inter-agency synergy as central to advancing the blue economy agenda and ensuring safe, secure, and investment-friendly waters for Nigeria.
