The Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, on Friday installed Chief Saka Awojoodu as the new Jaaran Adimula of Ile-Ife, in a ceremony steeped in centuries-old tradition and palace protocols.
According to a statement by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, the rites drew palace chiefs, traditional priests, and key stakeholders of the Ife traditional council, underscoring the significance of the office within the cultural hierarchy.
The installation was led on behalf of the Ooni by the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, and the Lowa Adimula of Ife, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, and took place at Oke-Emese within the palace premises.

Olafare highlighted that the proceedings strictly followed the customs governing the appointment of high-ranking chiefs in Ile-Ife.
Following the formal rites, the newly installed Jaaran Adimula participated in a symbolic procession around major compounds and sacred sites across Ile-Ife, accompanied by traditional priests and palace officials, a spiritual tradition required for assuming the responsibilities of the exalted office.
During the ceremony, Oba Idowu Adediwura charged the new chief to serve with integrity, humility, and loyalty to the throne of Oduduwa, stressing the need to preserve the sanctity of the institution and uphold the cultural identity of the Ife people.
The Lowa Adimula, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, added that the elevation of Awojoodu is “a call to greater service,” encouraging him to work collaboratively with other kingmakers and palace chiefs to foster unity and support the growth and stability of Ile-Ife.
In his acceptance remarks, Awojoodu, formerly Yegbata of Ife and head of the Emeses at the palace, expressed gratitude to the Ooni for deeming him worthy of the office. He pledged loyalty to the throne, promising to protect the cultural heritage, uphold traditions, and advance initiatives that promote peace, development, and unity in Ile-Ife.
The Jaaran Adimula is a senior kingmaker in the Ife traditional council, instrumental in palace affairs, including succession matters and advisory duties. By rank, the office is second only to the Lowa Adimula, a position formerly held by the current Lowa, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, before his elevation.
