No plans to sell public universities to private investors - FG

The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, has disclosed that the Government has no plan to sell public universities to private investors .

He made this known at a quarterly engagement of Education ministers with Director, Head of Agencies and Parastatals under the Ministry of Education in Abuja .

According to the Minister, This is due to misinformation, and speculation in some media space .

Public universities in Nigeria has a lot of challenges like lack of basic infrastructure , which hinders activities of learning in the university.

With this, most parents prefer to send their wards to private schools as they believe, their wards will get the level of quality education they seek.

Nigeria now has a total of 274 universities, 149 private , 63 states and 62 Federal Universities.

A conference was convened to address challenges faced by tertiary institutions and provide solutions to solve this problems.

The minister explained that; transnational education is a policy to open up Nigerian tertiary education by taking people from the rest of the world to come and invest in the nations tertiary institutions .

The minister reiterated that President Tinubu’s administration is committed to repositioning tertiary institutions in the country so it can compete with foreign counterparts.
