The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a wave of dust haze in the northern and central parts of the country, alongside cloudy skies and thunderstorms in the South, from Monday through Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released Sunday in Abuja, the agency highlighted reduced visibility in parts of the North, cautioning residents and travellers to take necessary precautions.
NiMet projected slight dust haze across the northern region on Monday, with Borno and Yobe expected to experience moderate dust haze and horizontal visibility ranging between 2km and 5km.
By Tuesday, the agency said moderate dust haze with similar visibility levels would persist across the region. Conditions are expected to worsen on Wednesday.

“For the northern region, a thick dust haze is anticipated across the region throughout the forecast period on Wednesday,” the agency stated.
The North Central zone is also expected to experience slight dust haze on Monday and Tuesday, progressing to thick dust haze by Wednesday.
“For the north-central region, thick dust haze is anticipated across the region throughout the forecast period,” NiMet added.

In the southern region, NiMet forecast a mix of cloudy conditions and intervals of sunshine, with possible thunderstorms in some states.
“For the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated across the region with slim chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom,” it said.
Later in the day on Monday, thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
Similar conditions are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with morning thunderstorms likely in parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River, followed by light rains in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet urged residents to exercise caution, especially in areas affected by dust particles in suspension across the North, North Central and inland southern states.
The agency advised individuals with respiratory conditions, including asthma, to be mindful of the prevailing weather conditions.
“Driving under rain should be done with caution. Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
