Nigerian women should lead food security campaign – First lady

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has stated that women should be at the forefront of the Food Security Campaign in the country.She made this statement at the State House residence during the unveiling of her vegetable garden, which she is growing to encourage first-time women farmers to join the ongoing “Every Home A Garden” competition.

The First Lady has planted seven vegetables, including spinach, water leaf, bitter leaf, lemongrass, scent leaf, okra, and jute mallow, also called ewedu in local Nigerian parlance

She emphasized that a little effort from every individual can go a long way in alleviating food insufficiency.

She encouraged first-time women farmers across the country to join the competition by planting a garden in their homes, believing that the produce will be sufficient to feed families and neighbors.

She showcased her garden to the Wife of Imo State Governor, Chioma Uzodinma, and the Wife of the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs. Aisha Matawale.

The “Every Home A Garden” competition is open to first-time women farmers across Nigeria, and entries are to be submitted to the Office of the Wives of the State Governments of the competitors. The winner will receive N25 million naira.
