The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has confirmed a fatal accident involving a truck at Essa community, along the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Katcha Local Government Area.
The truck, which was en route from Lagos to Kano, was carrying federal government grains and 36 male passengers.
The crash occurred at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, 18th May 2025.
According to NSEMA, the accident was caused by bad portions of the Lambata-Bida road that are yet to be reconstructed.
Seven people have been confirmed dead while eleven others sustained serious injuries, with five suffering minor injuries.
Some of the victims were taken to health centres in Badeggi and Agaie, while others were transported by their colleagues.
The bodies of most of the deceased were reportedly claimed by their relatives.
Rescue operations were conducted by NSEMA officials, with support from commuters and local villagers near the scene.
