The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief packages to victims of farmers-herders clashes across Benue State.
In a Wednesday statement shared on its official X handle, the Jos Operations Office of NEMA distributed the relief materials to communities affected by farmers–herders clashes in Buruku Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the exercise was held at the Buruku Local Government Secretariat Hall due to prevailing security concerns.
The distribution was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, local government officials, community leaders, and security agencies to ensure a transparent process.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, Chief Planning Officer, Mrs Madey Elukpo, conveyed the Agency’s sympathy to affected persons and families who lost loved ones during the clashes. She urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the relief items and encouraged community leaders to embrace peace and adopt Disaster Risk Reduction measures to prevent future occurrences.
Community leaders commended the Federal Government and NEMA for the timely intervention, noting that the support would help ease the hardship faced by the victims. Beneficiaries, including Mrs Blessing Kwagba and Mr Tesem Bagu, also expressed appreciation for the assistance.
Items distributed included rice, garri, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, and iodised salt.
