The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended six suspected drug traffickers and seized a large cache of illicit substances during a raid on a notorious drug enclave in Ama Hausa, Bonny Island, Rivers State, an operation that resulted in the death of one of its officers.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the raid was carried out on Friday, February 6, 2026. Items recovered during the operation included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.
The statement disclosed that Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid sustained fatal injuries during the operation after suspects, allegedly led by a gang leader identified as Genesis George Benson, mobilised armed hoodlums to violently resist arrest.
Mujahid was rushed to the Bonny Island General Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
“An NDLEA personnel, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid, however, lost his life as a result of severe head injuries sustained when the drug dealers mobilised armed hoodlums to attack operatives during the raid,” the statement read.

Despite the attack, NDLEA operatives succeeded in arresting all six suspects, including Benson, who is believed to have coordinated the assault that led to the officer’s death. The other suspects arrested are ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.
Reacting to the incident, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the courage and resolve of the operatives involved in the operation.
“I salute the gallantry of our men who refused to be intimidated by these criminal elements. Even after the cowardly attack on Mujahid, our operatives ensured that the assailants were overpowered and arrested, and their illicit substances confiscated. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” he said.
Marwa also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officer, describing him as “a disciplined and courageous officer who paid the ultimate price in the service of his fatherland.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, his colleagues, and the Rivers State Command,” he added.
He further warned that “any attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go without dire consequences. We remain undeterred in our mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs, and we will continue to take the fight to the enclaves of these merchants of death.”
