The Northwest Zonal Coordinator of the Centre for control of small arms and light weapons, Air Vice Marshal Haruna Umar Rtrd says it has retrieved over 40,000 ammunition.
He made this statement during a sensitisation program organised by the Centre in Birnin Kebbi.
The Dukku Barrack, which houses the 1 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, hosted critical stakeholders with the aim of creating Synergy and understanding of the challenges these proliferation of fire arms poses and causing a major concern for national security .
The Coordinator emphasised the need for a multi-faceted approach to addressing the issue.
Stakeholders at the event includes members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, associations of commercial motorcycle riders, youth groups, Security agencies among others.
Some of the participants shared their views.
The Centre also awarded some notable individuals for their contributions to the Centre’s quest to make Nigeria a small arms and light weapons-free society.
