Access to the corridor leading to the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been restricted to lawmakers only, following new security protocols announced by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, Etido Ekpo.

In a memo dated October 2, Ekpo directed that the hallway connecting the White House lobby to the Senate President’s office will henceforth be accessible solely to senators and members of the House of Representatives.

All aides and personal assistants are now barred from using the passage.

“You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to distinguished senators who would in turn intimate their aides or personal assistants as appropriate,” the memo stated.

Ekpo, a retired brigadier-general, explained that the decision was part of efforts to maintain a secure and orderly environment within the National Assembly complex.

The new directive comes ahead of the resumption of plenary sessions on October 7, following a legislative recess that lasted over two months.
