The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed a media report claiming that the Federal Government directed the agency to suspend enforcement actions on the regulation of sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.
In a statement, NAFDAC described the publication as false and misleading, stressing that it had received no official communication from the Federal Government ordering a halt to its regulatory or enforcement activities concerning sachet alcohol products.
The agency said it continues to operate strictly within its statutory mandate and in line with duly communicated government policies and directives, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public health, ensuring regulatory compliance and carrying out its responsibilities transparently in accordance with established laws and due process.
NAFDAC urged members of the public, industry stakeholders and the media to disregard the report and rely only on verified information issued through its official platforms and authorised government communication channels.
It also cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary public anxiety, economic uncertainty or misinterpretation of government policy.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health, supporting economic stability and upholding the national interest, according to a statement signed by its Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye.
