Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has ordered an immediate ban on all illegal roadblocks in Plateau State, limiting checkpoint operations to official security personnel only.
The move is part of urgent measures to curb rising insecurity and prevent further loss of lives.
The directive follows recent violent incidents, including the killing of ten people in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and the subsequent killing of four traders at an illegal roadblock.
These attacks have triggered widespread fear across Jos North and other communities in the state capital.
Tension remains high in affected areas, prompting the state government to visit communities to commiserate with families and call for calm, aiming to prevent reprisals and restore peace.
After an emergency security meeting with service chiefs, Governor Mutfwang warned that community leaders would be held responsible for any illegal checkpoints or actions that compromise public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, said security personnel have been reinforced across the state and stressed that anyone found disrupting peace would be arrested and prosecuted.
