The death toll from the devastating flood in Mokwa has risen to 260, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
Governor Umaru Bago has visited the affected communities with promises of support and intervention.
Governor Umaru Bago announced a ₦1 billion donation from the Niger State Government to families affected by the Mokwa flood disaster.
During his visit to the area, the governor also directed the immediate delivery of 10 trucks of rice and 10 trucks of millet as part of relief efforts.
The governor disclosed that the state will provide land for the federal government to begin the immediate reconstruction and resettlement of displaced residents.
He further revealed that the state has set a June deadline for the closure of all temporary camps. In the interim, funds will be made available by the state government to support displaced persons with temporary accommodation, pending the completion of permanent housing by the federal government.
In a related development, the Niger State Government has awarded a ₦7 billion contract for the reconstruction of the Rabbah Road Bridge, which was destroyed by the floodwaters.
