The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has described the late Rear Admiral Musa Bello Katagum as an intelligent and highly professional naval officer who served Nigeria with distinction and patriotic commitment.
Matawalle made the remarks during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased officer at his residence in Abuja.
The Minister was received by colleagues of the late Rear Admiral, members of the 41 Regular Course, family members and other associates.
While condoling the family, Matawalle said Rear Admiral Katagum was a highly respected officer who served the Nigerian Navy with dedication and strength, particularly in the area of maritime security.

“We are very proud of what he achieved. Rear Admiral Katagum’s contributions to national security were immeasurable. He played a pivotal role in shaping operational strategies, strengthening intelligence capabilities and mentoring generations of officers who would go on to emulate his professionalism and dedication,” the Minister said.
He added that the late officer’s insight, foresight and meticulous approach to operations ensured that the Nigerian Navy remained vigilant, formidable and ready to defend the nation’s maritime interests.
“His contributions played a vital role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters and enhancing the operational readiness of the Nigerian Navy,” he stated.
Matawalle said he was at the residence to personally condole with the family and offer prayers for strength during the difficult period.
“I am here to condole with his family and pray that Allah the Almighty strengthens them at this time and that the children will even be greater than Rear Admiral Katagum, their father.
“On behalf of the entire Ministry of Defence, we extend our deepest condolences,” he added.
The Minister donated N10 million and ten bags of rice to the family and signed the condolence register.
Rear Admiral Katagum was a former Director of Naval Intelligence and later served as Chief of Operations at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.
He died in an Egyptian hospital while receiving medical treatment. He is survived by his wife, children and other relatives.
Matawalle prayed that Allah grants the deceased Aljannatul Firdaus.
