MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has confirmed the tragic electrocution of one of its staff, Mr. Isaac Dike, a linesman attached to the company’s Ogui District in Enugu.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at approximately 3:25 p.m., at a 300KVA/11KV/0.415KV distribution substation on Giraffe Street, Ekulu East Estate (Zoo Estate), Enugu, while Dike was carrying out duties that are still under investigation.
In a statement on Thursday, MEDL’s Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh, said preliminary findings suggest that the deceased visited the substation with a team driver who was unaware of the assignment’s details or the customer involved.

“Further checks revealed that Mr. Dike did not inform any team member about his movement to Ekulu East Estate for official duty,” Ezeh stated.
He added that the company’s fault report log and Complaint Management System showed no record of any prior customer complaint or approved outage request for the area on that day, suggesting the accident may have occurred during unauthorised activity.
Dike’s lifeless body was retrieved from the high-tension pole and taken to the Emergency Unit of Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Colliery, Enugu, where he was confirmed dead.
The incident was reported at the Abakaliki Road Police Station, and his remains were later deposited at the morgue.
Ezeh described the loss as “unfortunate” and extended condolences to the family: “Our hearts go out to his family, and we pray for the repose of his soul.”
