The Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE has called on the National Assembly to amend every section of the 1999 Constitution, needed for the actualisation of full autonomy for local government areas in the country.

The State Chairman of NULGE, Frederick Akinrinola who made the call at a press briefing held at the union’s secretariat in Akure also commended President Bola Tinubu for allowing local government autonomy to stay

This press briefing came a few days after the Supreme Court granted full autonomy to the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

The judgment has continued to attract reactions from different quarters, with many commending the verdict.

The latest applause is coming from Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE.

Addressing journalists over the matter, the State Chairman of NULGE, Frederick Akinrinola urged legislators at the national and state assemblies to amend every section of the 1999 Constitution, needed for the actualisation of full autonomy for local governments.

On his part, the National Vice President and Chairman of NULGE in the South-West, Abimbola Babalola urged local government employees not to relent in the struggle for political autonomy.

The union proceeded on a peaceful rally to commend President Bola Tinubu and the judiciary for granting financial autonomy to local government areas.

Members of NULGE in Ondo State believe that rapid development will get to the grassroots with full autonomy in place.
