The Lagos State Government has denied placing a ban on the operation of passenger vehicles from Northern states.

This followed an allegation by the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Abuja that it received information that the state government had stopped the operation of passenger vehicles from the North and recalled a reversal of the decision.

The controversy between the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria and the Lagos State government lingers over the management of parks and garages in the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered the immediate suspension of RTEAN activities in Lagos state owing to a part also amongst factional members of the association which claimed one life for one Tianoba in Ojo local
Council in October 2022.

The state governments then set up a 35-member caretaker committee called the Lagos state parks administrator chaired by the Oniba of Iba Oba Suleiman Adesina Raji to take over the Union’s activities but RTEAN headed to the National Industrial Court in Lagos urging the Court to declare the state government’s actions illegal arguing that it is an association registered under the 2004 Trade union act a law of the Federation.

The state government and the caretaker committee members who are the defendants in the suit on their part urged the court to dismiss the suit for being without Merit.

Ahead of the adjourned date, the case which is before Justice Maureen Esowe has been adjourned till February the 23rd.

In the meantime, RTEAN says the Lagos State government has stopped the operations of passenger vehicles coming from the Northern part of the country, a claim denied by the parks and garages administrators.

Observers say party should maintain status who as ordered by the court and allow the Judiciary adjudicate over the matter without fear or favour.
