Image result for tree planting in KatsinaMore than 5.5 million trees are to be planted on 48,000 hectares of land across some selected local government areas in Katsina state.

This was revealed at the third annual review meeting on Improving the fuel wood balance in Katsina state.

TVC News Katsina Correspondent, Awwal Ibrahim reports that stakeholders at the seminar said the aim is to improve the fuel to wood balance in Katsina state due to the high demand for firewood which is leading to a serious deforestation.

They suggested that there is need to devise a means of conserving the forest, by improved sensitization on the use of the newly invented mould stoves.

Two hundred and seventy five thousand beneficiaries are expected to actively participate in achieving the set objectives.

The project is also expected to distribute 35,000 Mould efficient clean cook stoves, but lack of enabling laws seems to be one of the constraints of the project.

The state Ministry of Environment said more than N59m was released as counterpart funding for the project.

Katsina is one of the frontline states facing the problems of desert encroachment.

Govt and other partner agencies should have to design policies that when followed the set objectives would be achieved eg policies that will ensure early planting of seedlings for them to enjoy raining season
