The Katsina state government has enforced a 7-to-7 curfew across the state in response to the first day of protests in some areas.
This is as the Jigawa State Government also imposed a 24-hour curfew, which took effect on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Governor of Jigawa state, Umar Namadi announced the curfew in a statewide broadcast following the violent turn of the nationwide protests, which resulted in looting of public and private properties.
However, the curfew will be relaxed on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm to allow Muslims to observe Friday prayers.
During this period, movement to mosques will be permitted, but the use of vehicles is strictly prohibited.
A statement issued by the office of secretary to the government of Katsina state, a 24 hours curfew will also be observed in Dutsinma local government alone.
The decision was reached at an emergency security Council meeting on Thursday after reviewing the security situation in the state.
The acting Governor Farouk Jobe also used the medium to appeal to the people of the state to be law abiding and avoid any act that could jeopardize the state’s stability.
