The Kaduna State Government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on Zaria and Kaduna Metropolitan cities.
The new curfew hours are from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily, allowing citizens to move freely during that time.
This was revealed in a statement by Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, who noted that the new curfew hours will take effect from Thursday, 8th August 2024.
Recall that the Kaduna State Government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria on Monday due to ongoing protests, which they said had been hijacked by criminals looting and destroying property.
The unrest escalated on the fifth day of demonstrations when violent protestors vandalized properties and targeted innocent residents.
The State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, reaffirmed its commitment to the peace and security of the state, pledging to take necessary steps to maintain order.
Authorities say security forces will rigorously enforce the curfew from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. and will be decisive in addressing any actions that may threaten law and order during both restricted and unrestricted hours.
On the first day of protests, the police alerted the public that a proscribed religious group had hijacked the demonstration in the state.
