The Jigawa State Executive Council has directed the State Independent Electoral Commission to organise and hold local government council elections within the next two months in accordance with the Supreme Court’s ruling, which required the holding of elections within three months in all local governments in Nigeria without elected executives.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.
He explained that the executive’s approval for conducting the elections in all 27 local government councils in the state followed the amendment of the state electoral law by the state House of Assembly.
