The International Association of World Peace Advocates has presented an award to TVC News, for its unbiased coverage of the Rivers state rerun legislative elections.

The award was part of events lined up by the association to celebrate what it considers the invaluable contributions of the outgoing secretary general of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon to world peace and development.

TVC News Uche Okoro reports from Port Harcourt that recipients of awards from this UN-Affiliated body are selected based on how their works complied with international best practices in the area of sustainable development and good governance.

According to organizers, TVC News was specifically singled out for the honour because of the professional and balanced manner in which it covered the rerun legislative polls in Rivers State.

President of the International Association of World Peace Advocates says the out-going UN scribe deserved to be celebrated because of his landmark achievements in de-escalating conflicts across the world.

But Stafsen has challenged the in-coming leadership of the UN to fashion out better strategies aimed at bringing lasting peace to many conflict prone regions in the world, especially the Middle East.

Also, the UN affiliated Association commended the incoming Secretary General of the world body António Guterres for appointing Nigeria’s former minister of the environment, Amina Mohammed as his deputy.

The group says the former minister’s appointment may not unconnected with the critical role which women play in advancing global peace worldwide.
