The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has undertaken an operational visit to Plateau State following the deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba Community in Nasarawa Gwong, Jos North Local Government Area, which claimed several lives on March 29, 2026.
Upon arrival, IGP Disu condemned the assault and paid a courtesy visit to Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, commiserating with him and the people of the state over the tragic incident.
He later proceeded to Angwan Rukuba to assess the affected community firsthand.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, on Friday, April 3.

According to the statement, a swift operational response was activated immediately after the distress call.
The deployment included Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Usman Nadada, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, AIG Francis Iwu, eight units of the Police Mobile Force, the Special Intervention Squad, and other tactical and intelligence units. The operations were conducted in coordination with the military and other security agencies.
IGP Disu noted that coordinated efforts with the local government, community leaders, and youth groups have significantly de-escalated tensions.
He stressed that security personnel remain strategically deployed to maintain law and order, while intelligence-led operations continue to track down the perpetrators.
“Sustained operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored,” Disu said. He also warned youths against taking the law into their own hands, noting that “any form of reprisal or vigilantism would only escalate tensions and undermine ongoing peace efforts.”
Plateau State Governor, Mutfwang, praised the Nigeria Police Force for its rapid response, particularly the role of Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, and the Police Mobile Force in containing the crisis.
However, he highlighted the need for structural improvements in security management, including the establishment of a State Police, acquisition of modern policing tools such as night surveillance drones with infrared capabilities, and strengthening intelligence-gathering through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and State Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
The Governor also pledged ongoing logistical support for the Nigeria Police, while acknowledging challenges such as vast terrain, manpower constraints, and the distance between armouries that impact effective security coverage.
IGP Disu assured that he will brief President Bola Tinubu on the situation as part of national security coordination efforts. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to provide credible information to aid security operations.
