Non payment of promotion arrears, disparity in salaries, non remittance of check-off dues and university autonomy are among range of issues being demanded from Imo State government by the Academic staff union of universities of Imo State University Owerri.
The University lecturers staged a protest around the University premises to press home their demands.
Members of the academic staff union of universities, IMO State University chapter converged to express their displeasure against the Imo State government over what they described as non compliance to their demands despite all efforts to resolve some lingering issues about their welfare.
At a press conference shortly after the protest, the branch Chairperson of ASUU in the university highlighted lack of funding, delay in promotion, non payment of earned academic allowances, non payment of annual salary increments among the wide range of issues affecting their productivity.
The union appealed to the State government to take urgent steps in addressing these challenges.
The union added that the inclusion of the University in Treasury Single Account is also slowing down development in the University.
