The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, has lauded Jigawa State for its sweeping reforms and development initiatives under Governor Umar Namadi.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Government House in Dutse, Yahaya described the trip as “more than protocol – it is a homecoming to one of the nation’s strongest towers of accountability”. He praised the governor for placing professionals in key leadership positions and reinforcing his administration’s commitment to transparency and financial discipline.

“We must commend Your Excellency for appointing distinguished members of our Institute into key leadership positions in the state. By placing ICAN Fellows in these critical offices, you have reinforced your administration’s commitment to financial discipline, transparency and professionalism in public service,” Yahaya said.

He highlighted reforms in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and education, noting that the Namadi administration had invested more than ₦25 billion in inherited road projects spanning 340 kilometres, injected ₦12.1 billion into 38 healthcare initiatives, including specialist hospitals in Hadejia and Kazaure, recruited over 10,000 teachers, absorbed 147 first-class graduates into higher institutions and sponsored about 120 students to study medicine abroad.

In his response, Governor Namadi congratulated Yahaya on his investiture as ICAN President, describing it as a testament to resilience and excellence.

“I sincerely congratulate you for attaining this height. ICAN has been an institute to reckon with in this country, and your emergence is worthy of commendation,” Namadi said.

He assured the visiting delegation of Jigawa’s readiness to deepen collaboration with ICAN. “We have deliberately placed ICAN members in key positions, not because they are better than others, but because they have the requisite training to handle such responsibilities. We are ready to collaborate with the Institute in ways that will boost professionalism and strengthen public service delivery,” the governor stated.
