The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen says the training and development of teachers are paramount in ensuring quality education for all.

At a public hearing on bills to amend the Act establishing Federal Colleges of Education and the National Teachers Institute Act, Abbas Tajudeen emphasised the role of teachers in nation building.

The parliament insists education is not merely a tool for personal advancement and success; but the bedrock upon which nations are built

In another committee room, the Speaker said outdated laws and regulations hinder smooth operation of public institutions responsible for facilitating business activities.

At a public hearing on five bills organised by the House Committee on Commerce, attendees showed support for the bills on the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Co-operators and Social Enterprise Management.

Others are bills for Institute of Debt Recovery Practitioners of Nigeria, Agro-Processing Export Free Zone, Integrated Corporate Data Management Commission, and Institute of Chartered Corporate and Business Affairs Management of Nigeria.

Elsewhere, the House Committee on Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation of the Legislative Agenda, believes Nigeria is potentially positioned to serve as the green, blue and digital hub of Africa.

Its Chairman, Patrick Umoh, said the task of salvaging Nigeria’s economy and resetting it on the path of sustainable growth and development after several years of failure is a most critical challenge for the country.
