Workers in the health sector have called on the government to embark on a reform in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), in order to strengthen the scheme and cover some health conditions and surgeries that are currently excluded from the programme.
This appeal was made by the Chairperson of the Nursing Association of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, during an assessment of the challenges confronting the programme which was introduced in 2004.
She noted that the scheme is not doing bad but should be extended to rural areas where those who are less privileged will benefit from the government programme.
