Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has called on Christians and Muslims to live in peace, embrace their religious differences, and avoid discrimination or rancor.
The governor made the remarks on Friday at the Government House while receiving a delegation from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by the state chairman and including leaders of various Christian denominations, who paid a courtesy visit to express appreciation to his administration.
Governor Lawal commended the CAN leaders for acknowledging the government’s efforts in promoting the welfare and interests of all residents of Zamfara.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the comfort, support, and security of Christians in the state.
Reflecting on a long-standing land dispute, the governor recalled that about thirty years ago, a church purchased land in the Tudun Wada area with the intention of building a place of worship and a school.

Local leaders and youths opposed the plan, and successive governments failed to resolve the impasse.
Upon assuming office, Governor Lawal facilitated a resolution by acquiring the land for the construction of public schools to benefit both Christians and Muslims in the area.
He urged citizens to cultivate mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that God allowed the existence of different faiths for a reason.
Earlier in the visit, CAN State Chairman, Evangelist Jibril Afolabi, and Pastor Umoru Emanuel of the Living Faith Church praised Governor Lawal for his wisdom in resolving the decades-long dispute.
They described him as a “worthy father” who welcomes all without discrimination.
The visit concluded with the CAN Chairman and church leaders presenting Governor Lawal with an Ambassador of Peace Award in recognition of his efforts to promote harmony in Zamfara State.
