Fuel tanker goes up in flames at filling station in Jigawa

A petrol tanker went up in flames on Friday while offloading fuel at the NURSHE Filling Station in Marke, Kaugama Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident which occurred around 8 p.m. sent shockwaves through the community.

Jigawa State Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shisu Adam, confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing and more details will be provided in due course.

Eyewitnesses say the fire broke out while the tanker was offloading fuel into the station’s underground reservoirs.

The blaze quickly consumed the entire vehicle, producing thick black smoke which was visible kilometres away.

Firefighters, supported by local residents, battled through the night to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby homes and businesses.
