The Nigerian Government has reiterated the resolution of the country to throw its weight on the candidacy of Issa Hayatou for the CAF presidency is purely based on political, diplomatic and national interests.
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung says this is a directive from the federal government instructing NFF president, Amaju Pinnick to cast his vote for the 70-year-old Camerounian.
Pinnick, is a major ally of Hayatou’s main challenger, Ahmad Ahmad and has severally declared publicly that he would vote for the Malagasy.
During a media parley, in Abuja, Dalung emphasised that having helped Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents, Cameroon had proved to be a good neighbour.
Hayatou has been in charge of the Africa football-governing body for the last three decades.
The Caf elections will be held on Thuirsday, in Addis ababa.
