The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, 1 October.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the government stressed that the decision does not diminish the significance of the milestone, noting that other programmes lined up for the celebration would still hold.
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement said.
The government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused, while appreciating the understanding and cooperation of Nigerians, the diplomatic community and invited guests.
It further urged citizens to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at building a greater nation.
