The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that more than 4.2 million Nigerians have registered on its digital membership platform, describing the figure as evidence of sustained public trust despite internal and external challenges.

Factional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, disclosed this during a press briefing on the interim outcome of the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise.

According to him, data from the party’s registration portal shows that as of March 31, 2026, a total of 4,264,675 members had been captured across the country’s wards.

He said the exercise, initially scheduled for three weeks, recorded significant participation despite time constraints set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ememobong noted that the figures reflect grassroots support for the party, insisting that while some politicians have defected, the electorate remains largely loyal to the PDP.

“This digital membership registration has shown clearly that the politicians are defecting, not the electorate,” he said.

A breakdown of the data shows that male members accounted for 2,336,069 registrations, while female members stood at 1,928,606.

In terms of age distribution, individuals between 18 and 40 years made up 40.3 per cent of registrants, followed by those aged 41–60 at 30.7 per cent, while those aged 61 and above accounted for 28.9 per cent.

Regionally, the South West recorded the highest number of registrations with 953,954 members, followed by the South South with 917,652, and the North Central with 757,502. The North West had 754,935 members, the North East 646,305, while the South East recorded 234,327.

At the State level, Kaduna led with 408,915 registrants, followed by Edo with 378,033 and Oyo with 368,204. Ogun and Kano recorded 316,311 and 275,786 members respectively.

The PDP said the turnout demonstrates growing dissatisfaction with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of poor governance and rising insecurity.

The party urged its members to complete their registration, announcing that the exercise has been extended to April 30, 2026, to accommodate more participants.

It also warned against individuals it described as proxies of the APC posing as PDP members, reiterating its stance as a firm opposition party committed to reclaiming power.

While Ememobong still claims to be the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, another faction of the party led by Abdulrahman Muhammed has been reconginsed as the authentic PDP with a national convention held over the weekend.

Time will however tell if the data collected from this exercise will be useful for the party as both camps await the outcome of the case before the Supreme Court.
