Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has confirmed that the Department of State Services (DSS) has summoned him to assist with investigations into the recent attack on his convoy in Kebbi State.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, Malami said, “I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation over attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025.”
He added that the petition prompting the investigation appeared to have been initiated by “opposition high profile political elements as in the state.”
Malami also praised the DSS for their handling of the inquiry, stating,
“I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry. I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully.”

The attack occurred on September 1, when Malami’s convoy was ambushed by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital. This happened shortly after Malami had returned to Kebbi for a condolence visit to families in the area.
Reports indicate that about 10 vehicles in the convoy were damaged, and several supporters were injured during the assault.
On September 10, Malami formally petitioned key security officials—including the National Security Adviser (NSA), Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Director-General of DSS, and Comptroller-Generals of Immigration and Civil Defence—alleging a plot to destabilise Kebbi State by importing political thugs.
He claimed some politicians were collaborating with foreign mercenaries from neighboring Niger Republic to create unrest in Kebbi.
