The Presidency has accused former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, of attempting to create political tension in the country while deflecting attention from his alleged corruption in Kaduna State.

Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, revealed this in a post on his verified X handle on Monday.

According to Ajayi, El-Rufai is deliberately spreading misinformation to harm the government, portraying himself as a victim of persecution.

“El-Rufai has two clear intentions behind his recent actions and tantrums. One, to create political tension in the country, create an atmosphere of fear and unrest.

“Two, to divert attention from his domestic problems in Kaduna State, where he is facing massive corruption allegations. To draw attention to himself and project himself as a victim of persecution, he wants to nationalise his personal problems with his home state government, knowing that Nigerians will not be on his side over corruption charges”, Ajayi wrote.

He added that the former governor is attempting to nationalise his personal problems with the Kaduna State government, knowing that Nigerians are unlikely to support him over the corruption charges.

The Presidency’s remarks follow El-Rufai’s recent television interview in which he criticised the APC-led Federal Government.

The interview came shortly after the Department of State Services (DSS) attempted to arrest him at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
