Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has formally aligned with the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The move follows the recent defection of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who confirmed he would seek re-election on the Accord Party platform after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Davido announced his decision on Tuesday via his verified X account, stating that he would travel to Osogbo to pick up his Accord Party membership card.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY,” he wrote.
Governor Adeleke earlier declared that he joined the Accord Party on 6 November after consultations with political stakeholders. He cited unresolved leadership crises within the PDP at the national level as the reason for his exit.
He added that the Accord Party’s welfare-focused ideology aligns with the priorities of his administration.
Ahead of his formal announcement, Adeleke said he had already tendered his resignation from the PDP to officials in his ward in Ede North Local Government Area.
Davido had previously shown support for his uncle’s political realignment by reposting news of the governor’s resignation with the caption “Jeje…”.
The development is expected to reshape Osun’s political landscape as parties begin early positioning for the 2026 governorship poll.
