Court orders the extradition of Chukwuemeka Onyegbula, an IT staff of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation Nigeria Limited to the United States to face trial.
The federal high court sitting in Abuja has ordered the extradition of Chukwuemeka Onyegbula to the United States of America to face trial over allegations of wire fraud and identity theft.
Justice Inyang Ekwo made this order while delivering judgment on the application filed by the federal government.
The court ordered that Mr Onyegbula be surrounded by the United States by the AGF within 15 days from the day of this judgment and he is to remain in the correctional facility pending his extradition.
Mr Onyegbula had been indicted by the United State authorities for filing false claims for pandemic-related unemployment benefits in 17 states
According to the Seattle U.S. Attorney’s Office, Washington, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Nevada, Rhode Island, Texas and Wisconsin paid out a total of nearly $290,000 on claims related to the case.
Additionally, the federal Small Business Administration paid out $54,000 in COVID-19 economic disaster claims filed by Mr Onyegbula and his conspirators.
