University teachers in Nigeria have resolved to begin a one week warning strike from this Wednesday to press home demands for the implementation of the 2009 Agreement with the government.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has also come out strongly against the proliferation of universities by the Nigerian authorities.

Now the university teachers are determined to take the next step by embarking on a warning strike.
The strike, its leaders say, is to enable principal actors intervene so that the union won’t be blamed for another lull in academic activities in the varsity system
The union says it will commence a full blown strike nationwide should the authorities fail to act quickly to meet its demands
ASUU is also unhappy with the recent creation of new universities by the government. It worries that the establishment of varsities has been politicised
Unresolved issues between the authorities and the union include funding, condition of service, university autonomy and academic freedom.
