The Security Adviser to the Kogi State Government, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), has debunked rumours circulating on social media that bandits invaded Kiri High School and kidnapped students on Wednesday morning.

The rumour, which originated from a Facebook post, claimed that armed bandits attacked Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, in the early hours of the day, allegedly abducting students during the assault.

The post also stated that members of the Kiri Vigilante Group confronted the attackers and reportedly rescued all the students said to have been kidnapped. Community sources further claimed that no student remained in captivity due to the prompt response of the local vigilante team, though the operation allegedly resulted in the death of one vigilante member and a resident identified as a Hausa man.

However, in a swift reaction, Commander Omodara dismissed the account as false, stating that the government is tracking individuals responsible for spreading fake news on social media.

He expressed surprise that some people would fabricate stories capable of causing unnecessary tension in the state, warning that the government considers such individuals as collaborators of criminal elements.

Commander Omodara urged the public to disregard the report, assuring that security agencies across the state remain on high alert and are closely monitoring all areas to prevent any breach of peace.
