The Adamawa State Government has evacuated about 120 of its indigenes studying at the University of Jos following renewed violence in Jos, Plateau State.
The students arrived safely in Yola, where they were received by government officials led by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Umar Garba Pella.
Dr. Pella said the evacuation became necessary after the state government received distress calls from the affected students.
He noted that the swift intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to the safety and welfare of Adamawa students, regardless of their location across the country.

According to him, the government promptly mobilised resources and coordinated logistics to ensure the safe return of the students.
However, the evacuation was marred by tragedy, as the leadership of the Adamawa State Students Union, University of Jos chapter, confirmed the death of one final-year student during the crisis. The union’s president, Musa Albani, described the incident as heartbreaking and a huge loss to the student community.
He commended the Adamawa State Government for its timely response, calling on relevant authorities to take decisive steps to restore lasting peace in Plateau State and safeguard lives and property.
The recent unrest in Jos has once again raised concerns over recurring security challenges in parts of the country, with stakeholders urging proactive measures to prevent further escalation and protect vulnerable populations, including students.
