A member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency II, Monday Obolo, has emerged the new speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.His emergence came shotly after sounds of gunshots were heard in the Assembly complex as the immediate past speaker allegedly disappeared with the mace.
Reports say the invasion is connected to the unfolding leadership crisis of the legislative arm over pressure on the Speaker Tonye Isenah to resign so as to pave the way for the election of the incumbent Majority Leader of the House of Assembly Monday Obolo to take over as Speaker.
Mr Isenah had on Friday disclosed to his colleagues and workers of the House of Assembly that he would resign today but as the lawmakers were having a closed door session, the gunmen stormed the chamber and made away with the Mace.
Mr Monday Obolo of southern Ijaw 2 is now the new speaker of the house.
