FG begins implementation of National Health Act 2014 in Delta, 14 others

Image result for Delta State Health Insurance SchemeThe Federal Government has begun implementation of the National Health Act 2014 with the disbursement of over six billion naira to fifteen states and the FCT.

Minister of Health, Osagie Enahire, announced this at the 62nd National Council On Health, meeting in Asaba, capital of Delta state.

TVC News Ikenna Amechi reports that after almost 59 years of independence, Nigeria still ranks low among the World Health Organisation member nations in Universal Health Coverage.

The National Health Insurance Scheme which is tasked with overall goal of enhancing access to quality and affordable health care has less 5% coverage and the country has the highest cases of maternal and neonatal deaths with other health challenges confronting it.

The Minister of Health reeled out some of the achievements of the country so far, but wants states to be more proactive to access some health fund. The Delta State governor while lamenting the low coverage of NHIS says his administration has done a lot in that regard

This exhibition underscores the importance of electronic data collection in assisting the universal health coverage in Nigeria.

This year’s National Council On Health meeting with the theme consolidating the journey towards Achieving Health Coverage also discussed of Health Emergencies, Outbreak, curbing the growing menace of mental and substance abuse and maternal and child health with 6 states identified as high burdened with cases of Maternal and neonatal deaths.
