Experts reiterate need to promote use of Indigenous Medicinal Plants

The Use of African Traditional Medicine is increasingly becoming popular in Nigeria, mainly because many Nigerians consider it cost efficient and effective.

The 31st of August every year is celebrated as the African Traditional Medicine Day and its a strategy to institutionalize traditional Medicine in African healthcare systems.

Correspondent Tijesu Adeoye reports that traditional Medicine has become catchy to many people for different reasons. Some consider it a healthier, more effective alternative to the orthodox form of treatment and for others, it has become a major source of income.

This growing industry has become a main source for primary healthcare and about 80 percent of Africa’s population rely on traditional medicine for basic healthcare needs

Although this medicines are not 100 percent free from possible danger, the Nigerian government has taken preventive measures to protect traditional medicine users from harm.

The Africa Traditional Medicine Day is celebrated on the 31st of August every year.

It’s a day created to Promoting the use of Indigenous Medicinal Plants combined with some aspects of African spirituality to help treat people with basic healthcare needs .
