Flooding: Over 17,000 persons now in IDP Camps in Delta state

The Death toll from the flood the ravaging some communities in Delta state has risen to five as the state Government opens more camps to cater for more than seventeen thousand internally displaced persons.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this while visiting some of the camps, in addition to urging the Federal Government to construct dams and dredge the rivers Niger and Benue to stop the recurrence of this natural disaster.

Okowa noted that this year’s flood was more devastating than a comparable incident in 2012.

As the rising flood continues to wreck havoc across the country, Delta State is having it’s share from natural disaster.

Delta State Governor and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate the Ogbe-Afor Camps to see those directly affected by the ravaging floods which has sacked many people in different communities of the 19 Local Government Areas affected by flood in the State.

The Governor left to encourage over 1600 people while praying for them, but the people, including these nursing mothers, lamented their losses.

Dame Edith Okowa, the governor’s wife, also visited the camp to encourage the people. Despite the government’s efforts, some lives were lost as the Governor provided more updates and called for a permanent solution

Over 17,000 people are currently living in 11 IDP camps in Delta state as some schools are temporarily shutdown because of the disaster.
