President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, said state governments should go ahead and implement the thirty thousand naira minimum wage and not wait for the federal government.
The journey to the signing of the the new minimum wage into law by President Buhari was long and rough one which brought the labour leaders in fierce confrontations with the federal and state governments.
One of the governors who has been favourable to Labour is the Delta State governor.
In recognition of his contribution to its course, the Nigerian Labour Congress president, together with his executive members were in Asaba to congratulate the governor of Delta state for his re-election.
For the state governor, the relationship with labour is that of mutual benefits and wants workers to contribute more in the development of the country
The NLC President commended the governor for all he has done for workers which has earned him the recognition as the most labour friendly governor in Nigeria.
However, the Labour Leader is hopeful of the success of the resumed meeting with the technical committee on the organised labour and the Federal government on the consequential increase arising from the new minimum wage.
He noted that two states are already implementing the new minimum wage and encouraged others to comply.
The Federal Government is proposing 9.5 percent salary increase for workers on grade 7 to 14 and 5% for those on 15 to 17 while labour wants 30% for 7 to 14 and 25% for grade levels 15 to 17.
