Communication gap and partial understanding of a General Memorandum of Understanding are major causes of friction between International Oil Companies and their host communities in Okordia and Zarama, Yenagoa Council Area of Bayelsa State.
To forestall a further breach in community relations, the Stakeholders Alliance For Corporate Accountability has held an oil and gas meeting to
review and evaluate the existing GMoU for transparent implementation.
Ovieteme George reports that Peace in the Niger Delta region has often been disrupted over the years due to friction between International Oil Companies and their host communities due to alleged failure of non-implementation of a General Memorandum of Understanding.
This has often led to a shutdown of operational activities of the companies.
Present at this meeting are community representatives and officials of oil companies brought together by the “Stakeholders Alliance For Corporate
Accountability”.
The aim of the gathering is to give the people of the Okordia-Zarama Cluster an opportunity to review or evaluate the General Memorandum of
Understanding with the company.
The theme of the gathering is Promoting Stakeholders Partnership Through Transparent Implementation of the GMoU.
