The North East Commodity Association in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrowers’ Scheme is to distribute six hundred tractors to farmers in the six states of the North East ahead of this year’s farming season.
Flagging off the exercise, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri believes the gesture would bring succour to the teeming farmers in the region as well as help the nation achieve food security.
The North East Commodity Association says the only option left for the nation to alleviate poverty, is to upgrade subsistence farming to mechanised agriculture.
It is why NECA is collaborating with the CBN to provide improved mechanized methods to farmers with the distribution of 600 modern tractors.
The Adamawa state Governor is pleased with this initiative and pledges his administration’s commitment to the reorganisation of agriculture in his state.
The partnering agencies expect that in return farmers will channel their efforts to achieving national food security
The beneficiaries are delighted with the initiative and call on other farmers who are yet to benefit from the project to cash in early.
About fifty thousand farmers have received support from the North East Commodity Association’s partnership with the Anchor Borrowers programme in the North East in the last two years.
Expectations are high that more farmers will still benefit.
