The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala-Usman has vowed to take decisive measures to resolve the issues of revenue leakages at the maritime agency.
This was part of her assurances during a two-day tour of the eastern ports facilities in Port Harcourt and Onne.
TVC News Correspondent, Ifuanaya Eze reports that it was a visit by the NPA executive management Team to see first-hand the state of ports facilities and terminals.
The evaluation allowed the managing Director and her team address the lingering issue of instituting transparency in the system, which she admits has become the most daunting challenging the current management of the ports authority must deal with.
At different meetings with the agency’s personnel and stakeholders, the need for a competitive port system through enhanced port operations and productivity was emphasized.
That and her determination to review the terms and conditions in the concession agreements between operators and service providers and the NPA.
She highlighted that management would prioritize debt issues and collection, noting that third party contractual agreements on port services would be reassessed.
It was not just policy statements for the managing director and her team as she also inaugurated the connection of the Onne Port to the national grid.
