The Federal Government has apologised to students and parents after university teachers suspended their eight-month old strike.
Labour and Employment Minister, tendered the apology while reacting to ASUU’s suspension of the industrial action.
Chris Ngige thanked all those involved in the negotiations leading to the suspension of the strike.
His words: ” Now that ASUU has decided to obey the judgement of the National Industrial Court by suspending what it calls ‘the devastating action’, government deems it necessary to apologise to all students and parents, for this unduly prolonged strike, which is unwarranted ab initio.”
He said a groundwork was being laid, of which Government was confident would save Nigerians, the unpalatable experience of incessant strikes in future.
ASUU had issued a statement on Friday announcing the suspension of the strike and directing its members to return to work.
