The Kogi State Government says it is determined to take Dangote Cement to court and reclaim what rightfully belongs to the people, despite the federal government having ordered the opening of the Obajana cement factory.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting between key government officials, led by Governor Yahaya Bello and representatives of different ethnic groups in the state on Thursday.
A statement sent by the state commissioner for information Kingsley Fanwo said all stakeholders at the meeting which ran into the early hours of Friday resolved to head to court in the interest of the people and generations to come.

He said he says the governor made it clear there was no going back on the state’s resolve to reclaim it asset.
Fanwo added that the government of Kogi will not compromise the interests of the people of the state to reclaim their rights in the cement company.
He concluded that the government shall be non-violent in its approach, assuring green pathways to success for the people in the battle for the economic future of Kogi State.
The Federal Government had earlier ordered the reopening of the Obajana Cement Factory and advised that all issues in dispute be resolved legally.
This comes a few days the presidency intervened to restore order over the struggle for the ownership of the cement factory in Obajana between the state government and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
The Kogi state government shut down the Obajana factory over allegations of tax evasion and unresolved ownership.
The management of Dangote Group, however, said it had concluded plans to approach the court to seek legal redress on the matter.
