Image result for Gas business in nigeriaThe Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has threatened to withdraw the operational licenses of business owners in the gas industry. It issued this warning during a workshop held in Port Harcourt to sensitize stakeholders on best practices.

Correspondent Uche Okoro reports that due to dangers posed by Liquefied Petroleum Gas, standards organization of Nigeria, SON said it is stepping up efforts to enforce compliance to regulations guiding manufacture and importation of gas equipment such as cylinders and tanks.

It therefore organized a workshop to sensitize industry players on SON’s quality control efforts through certification of business owners.

SON threatened to withdraw licenses of business owners in the gas industry who fail to adhere to regulations guiding their operations. But in order to improve compliance, operators in the industry are demanding synergy and uniformity of policies amongst all regulatory agencies

Participants were trained on handling fires caused by gas explosions as well as other safety tips, while consumers were warned to refrain from patronizing road side gas vendors whose operations the SON says remain illegal.
